Château La Maroutie is situated on the heights of Monbazillac, south of
Bergerac, a few feet from the famous Chateau de Monbazillac, medieval emblem from
the 16th century.
Its unique point of view over
the Bergerac plain gives the impression that the lands are part of the sky and
the sun is hiding behind the rows each evening to have a private conversation
with the vineyard.
The soil gets its originality from clay and limestone. Clay is porous,
so it lets water penetrate slowly and keeps it prisoner for the time it takes to
ensure the proper irrigation of the vines. Limestone allows the soil to become warm
quickly in the morning and keep the heat at night, thus mitigating temperature
differences.
For almost 20 years, Château La Maroutie has been endeavouringto offer a wine that respects both the soil
and the expectations of new consumers. The two are reconcilable, winemaking is
not reduced to the evocation of outdatedland by an elitist vocabulary. The love of wine can be transmitted, it
can also be learned. In our time, prejudice should not tarnish the image of a
world that has much to offer.
